Horror Forecast

It’s been a while since I’ve posted one of these horror heads-ups, so here’s a quick peek at just some of the upcoming cult/horror/exploitation-related movies I’ve read about since last time that caught my eye.

The New Family (pre-production)
According to its Facebook page, “The sleepy town of Murdoch is reawakened when young women in various stages of pregnancy begin to die at the hands of a brutal killer.” Casting began in May for this St. Louis, Missouri-based slasher, so that’s a good sign. No trailer yet, but damn! That poster! I feel like I’m back in the late-80s. I mean, I wasn’t born yet, but still. Looking forward to this one based on the artwork alone.

Killer Rack (pre-production)
Slime City director Greg Lamberson took to Kickstarter (hurry, it’s still active) earlier this month in hopes of crowdfunding his latest project, Killer Rack. Here’s a blurb from the movie’s official Facebook page: “Betty thinks her life will improve for the better when she gets breast implants from Dr. Thulu, but her new boobs turn out to be Lovecraftian monsters hell bent on world domination!” Sounds good to me!

Phantasm 5: Ravager (completed)
While this fifth (and purportedly final) entry stands out as the first to not be directed by series creator Don Coscarelli, it’s sure to please phans by again reuniting all the main cast members, and featuring plenty of spherical mayhem. Click here for an older post with more information.

Phantasm Ravager

Killjoy: Psycho Circus (possibly filming)
Another fifth entry, announced by Full Moon to Dread Central in January. Not much is known at this point, besides the fact that Killjoy 3 and 4 director John Lechago is rumored to return. It might even be filming or posting right now, as a teaser announcement from Killjoy himself Trent Haaga’s blog seemed to allude to the project moving forward in April.

Killjoy Goes to Hayull

The Last Gas Station (pre-production)
Not much is known about this either. Oft-maligned Murder Set Pieces director Nick Palumbo’s next feature claims “hyperviolence is an attitude”, touting itself as “A neo-noir thriller… A hallucinogenic and nightmarish study of a desperate man who has pushed himself to the edge of sanity through his own intrinsic greed.” Click here for the website. There, you can listen to Tommy James and the Shondells’ “Crimson and Clover”, but as of this writing, you won’t really find much else.

German Angst (pre-production)
This German horror anthology is set to feature segments directed by Jörg Buttgereit (Nekromantik 1 and 2), Andreas Marschall and Michal Kosakowski, titled Final Girl, Alraune and Make a Wish, respectively. Visit the website to find out more.

German Angst

Vamprechaun (pre-production)
Leprechaun series creator Mark Jones broke news of this bad boy on Dread Central’s inaugural episode of Dread Central Live back in February. Shortly after, an Indiegogo campaign was launched that failed to raise its $100,000 goal by a long shot. Just to clear any confusion, this isn’t a sequel to Leprechaun, nor will it be involved with that film, despite the fact that Warwick Davis (who played the Leprechaun) is or was attached for the title role. Instead, it’s said to focus on a completely different leprechaun that’s bitten by a vampire.

American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore (pre-production)
The first part of a planned series aimed to revive the controversial and gore-heavy Japanese Guinea Pig series that many mistook for actual snuff, including Charlie Sheen and the FBI. Stephen Biro of Unearthed Films is set to produce and direct, with cinematography by Jim VanBebber, who also stars.

AGP

PMS Cop (completed)
From its website: “Caught on camera brutally beating a clown rapist, police officer Mary Collins is informed… that she suffers from extreme PMS and enrolls… for the new menstrual wonder drug Corybantic. Mary responds positively until a devastating incident throws her into a monstrous drug-induced killing frenzy. Soon everyone who comes into contact with the PMS cop realizes it IS her time of the month.” This one’s actually streaming right now on fullmoonstreaming.com. DVDs are available for pre-order through Amazon. Looks and sounds hilarious!
